Pupil Leadership

Our pupil leadership opportunities empower children to play an active role in shaping school life while developing valuable life skills. Through groups including the School Council, Head Pupils, House Captains, Wellbeing Ambassadors and Eco-Warriors, pupils represent their peers and lead positive change. Leadership roles in the arts, sport and academics — such as Arts Council, Sports Leaders, Class Champions and Pupil Librarians — further enrich our school community. Together, these roles promote responsibility, teamwork and a strong pupil voice across the school.

Head Pupils

Find out how our Head Pupils lead, represent and inspire our school community.

Our Achievements

Autumn Term:

The Head Pupil and Deputy Head Pupils have supported the school’s ambition for all pupils to have high aspirations for themselves, both now and in the future. They have gathered pupil voice on interests and future goals, beginning with feedback on which clubs pupils would like to see next term in order to further develop their interests, talents and skills.

In the second half of the autumn term, they collected information about pupils’ career aspirations to inform our Careers Week and help identify which external agencies to invite. In addition, the Head Pupil and Deputy Head Pupils created a promotional video to inspire other pupils to get involved, share their ideas and actively shape the school community. This was shared during an assembly.

School Council

Discover how our School Council represents pupil voice and helps shape our school community.

Our Achievements

Autumn Term:

Our Houses of Parliament visit and sessions post visit have bridged the gap between British Values and our school identity, empowering the Council to see themselves as genuine changemakers. All of the school council pupils attended, alongside members of other pupil leaders (Eco and Arts).

By collaborating with peer leaders on the "Rights of the Child," the Council is now focused on Article 12 (the right to be heard) as a framework for inclusive, school-wide representation. This has supported TPA and school council to understand the importance of pupil voice but also what differences can be made.

Play Leaders

Learn how our Play Leaders organise inclusive games and promote positive play.

Our Achievements

Autumn Term:

We began by identifying the role of a Play Leader and exploring how we can make a positive impact on lunchtime play. The Play Leaders developed a clear understanding of the importance of their role and recognised how the school’s core values align closely with their responsibilities. Jay, Vicky and I visited LPA and GPFS to observe their current lunchtime provision, which inspired us with ideas to help Pioneer thrive during lunchtimes. Promoting ‘Positive Play’ will support us in preventing negative behaviour and ensuring pupils return to afternoon lessons ready to learn.

We mapped out the playground and created a detailed plan outlining where specific areas would be positioned. Liaising with our SSM and the site team we brought these plans to life, with equipment cleaned, checked and relocated onto the playground. Working alongside Jay and the site team, we also began ordering professional and safe resources, such as barriers, to enhance organisation and safety. These improvements not only make the playground look smart and purposeful, but also help pupils clearly identify where they would like to play.

Arts Council

Learn how our Arts Council champions creativity and celebrates the arts across the school.

Our Achievements

Autumn Term:

We have been focusing on the competency of compassion and what it means to us as Pioneers. We gathered pupil voice (see photo) to explore this further and then generated ideas on how we can demonstrate compassion when celebrating others, as well as how we can embed this across the school. We have also created a video highlighting what is coming up next and what we have to look forward to.

House Captains

Autumn Term:

Eco-Warriors

Discover how our Eco-Warriors help protect the environment and promote sustainability in our school.

Our Achievements

Autumn Term:

We have been exploring the role of an Eco Warrior and considering how we can make our mark by making our school more environmentally friendly. We gathered pupil voice to understand children’s ideas and perspectives. We have also been encouraging everyone in our school community to take responsibility for protecting the environment, not just the Eco Council.

We have raised awareness through assembly videos, photos of our leaders displayed on the Leadership Wall, and by wearing badges to promote our message. During the Christmas period, we encouraged everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle through a dedicated assembly video.

We organised litter picks on the playground to help keep our environment clean and encouraged others to do the same. We also gathered further pupil voice on how we can continue to become more eco-friendly as a school.

Wellbeing Ambassadors

Find out how our Wellbeing Ambassadors promote positive mental health and support others.

Our Achievements

Autumn Term:

The children painted friendship benches for our playgrounds. They also distributed anti-bullying stickers during Anti-Bullying Week to promote kindness and inclusion.

The friendship benches are being used during lunchtimes to support positive play and encourage friendships. The stickers helped to raise awareness of Anti-Bullying Week and reinforced our message of respect and kindness across the school.
