🐓 Nursery children (Reception age) had a wonderful trip to Barleylands Farm Park for The Little Red Hen experience! 🌾
On a chilly May day, the children got hands-on making their own bread using wheat grown right on the farm. They watched an impressive bird of prey in flight, enjoyed a bumpy tractor ride, and had the chance to touch and feed some friendly farm animals. 🐑🦅🚜
After an action-packed day, there were a few sleepy heads on the bus ride home. A lovely day full of learning, laughter, and a little rest!
Year 4 pupils embarked on an exciting trip to Grangewaters Outdoor Education Centre, where they took part in a range of adventurous water-based activities. Blessed with perfect weather conditions, the children had the opportunity to try stand-up paddle boarding, canoeing, and kayaking—many for the very first time.
The day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and new challenges, as pupils developed their confidence on the water while enjoying the natural surroundings. Staff praised the children for their enthusiasm and positive attitude throughout the day.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience that provided memorable moments and helped to build resilience, cooperation, and a love for outdoor learning.
Year 2 blasted off on an out-of-this-world alien adventure! After a mysterious crash, there was an egg in a bush on the field. The children became space explorers, using their imagination and teamwork to investigate. They met a friendly alien. Our classroom was truly transformed into a galaxy far, far away! We helped Beena the alien learn English and read stories. Then we helped her escape so she could get home to her planet!
The Year 5 children have been very lucky this half-term to have had the Road Safety workshop from SaferEssex come to Pioneer and complete some important pedestrian training. The children engaged in a discussion about hazards and keeping themselves safe on the roads before going out in groups into the nearby street to put their knowledge into practice! The staff commented on how well the children behaved and how much they already knew!
The Year 5’s were involved in an amazing, immersive experience all about what life was like during Ancient Egyptian times. The children were engaged in many activities throughout the morning, including making canopic jars, mummification and creating many artefacts they would have taken with them into the ‘afterlife’. During the afternoon, the children engaged in learning various dramatic scenes to put on a show in front of the ‘Pharaoh’ and enjoy a feast to celebrate! Many children expressed how much they enjoyed the workshop by the end of the day and were excited to take their created pieces home to show parents!
Our incredible Year 3 to Year 6 students successfully completed their 2-mile run on the field for the London Mini Marathon! 🏃♀️🏃♂️
Leading up to the event, 75 enthusiastic children had been diligently preparing by running their daily mile during break times. Their commitment and effort were truly inspiring!
Each participant also worked hard to raise sponsorship money from family and friends, with contributions paid in via PayPoint throughout the week. We were so proud of their fundraising efforts!
The event itself was a fantastic display of perseverance and school pride. Students showed great determination as they completed their mini-marathon, cheered on by staff and supporters. It was a wonderful achievement for everyone involved! 🎉

The Year 1 team transformed the hall into a reading and phonics festival for the day, complete with bunting, tents, fire pits and lots and lots of books. The children took part in ‘book tasting’, eating the tropical fruits featured in Handa’s Surprise, as well as a ‘Giant Jam Sandwich’.
Over 40 parents joined in the fun, completing phonics games, making character puppets, taking part in a massive ‘Bear Hunt’, and reading with their children. We outlined the upcoming phonics screening test and showed parents fun and engaging ways to help their children with their reading at home.
The year 4 children took a trip to Frameless, a permanent immersive art experience in Marble Arch, London, where famous artworks by Van Gogh, Monet, Klimt, and more are brought to life with digital projections and music. Children explore four interactive galleries, engaging with art in a unique, multisensory way. It’s an inspiring and educational experience perfect for sparking creativity!
Nursery visited the Little City set up in the Shiny Hall which allows the children to explore different career opportunities, use their imagination, collaborate in their play, turn take, share and talk.
All props provided are at the child’s level of development, likes and fascinations, which they all thoroughly enjoyed.
